LEE Wilkinson has clinched a gold medal at the 2017 Para Table Tennis Spanish Open.

Wilkinson, from Evesham, won the men’s class seven team event and secured bronze in the singles at Ciutat del Prat in Barcelona.

Wilkinson partnered Alex Bland for the first time to win gold.

They won their first two matches in the round-robin event against Norway/Austria (2-1) and Spain (2-0).

The duo’s final match against Sweden decided the medals and they defeated Sam Gustafsson and Noah Olsson 2-0.

In the singles, Wilkinson, a member of the British Para Table Tennis Team development squad, lost to Kazuya Kaneko from Japan in the group but won his second match against Gustafsson 3-1.

After beating Austrian Andreas Thomasberger 3-0 in the quarter-finals, the 24 year-old lost 3-0 to World number two Jordi Morales in the semi-finals.
