OVERBURY Bowling Club squeezed into the last 16 of the men’s WBA County Triples Championship after a remarkable victory in a thrilling finale against Hewell.

It was a superb fightback for a spirited Overbury, who appeared to be heading towards defeat after trailing 10-6 with just three ends to play.

Trailing 10-9, Mike Mace, Dan Mason and Neil Williams achieved a full house of nine on the final end of the match to give Overbury victory by eight shots.

Neither side allowed the other to win more than one shot per end after the first 13 ends, with Hewell leading 7-6.

However, Overbury could not stop Hewell from breaking the pattern on the 14th end.

Hewell scored two shots followed by another on the 15th end, resulting in a 10-6 lead with three ends to play.

It looked tough for Overbury to secure victory because, just to draw, they needed four shots from the last three ends.

Overbury had not previously recorded more than one shot in any end during the match.

On the 16th end, Overbury scored one shot and then broke their single shot sequence by winning two shots on the 17th end to reduce the deficit to 10-9.

To the surprise of the spectators, Overbury held their nerve to score a full house. All the players were exhausted at the end and stunned by the finale.
