EVESHAM United have been crowned Worcestershire FA Senior Cup champions for the first time since the 2008-2009 campaign.

They beat full-time National League North outfit Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 at the Jubilee Stadium in the final.

In an end-to-end game Evesham went ahead early in the second half as summer signing Greg Peel slotted into the bottom corner.

On 67 minutes Josh Webb levelled for Harriers, who fielded a side of mostly trialists and under 23s players, as he poked home a rebound.

But within minutes the Robins regained the lead with a thumping Matt Liddiard header from Adam Mann’s cross.

Both teams had chances to score in a frantic final few moments but United held on to lift the trophy ahead of their Southern League Division One South and West season.

Boss Paul Collicutt admitted: “The big thing about this time of year is trying to give players as much playing time as possible.”

So far this summer Evesham have recruited Matt Bennett, Liddiard, Jordan Lymm, Nick Rhodes and Peel.

They also added ex-javelin thrower-turned-striker James Campbell after a trial and defender Matt Williams has signed a contract.

Ex-Shortwood United midfielder Nick Hancock and forward Sean Brain, the nephew of former Robins ace Simon, are on trial.

“We have signed a few players and have got one or two we are going to be making a decision on within the next few days,” Collicutt added.

Evesham visit neighbours Pershore Town on Friday (7.45pm) and go to Stourport Swifts on Saturday (3pm).

Jubilee Stadium tenants Gloucester City host Derby County under 23s on Saturday (3pm) and Hereford FC on Monday (7.45pm).
