HARVINGTON Golf Society members were greeted by clear blue skies and a course in excellent condition when they returned to Burford for the 31st consecutive year to find their champion golfer of 2017 over 36 holes.

In the morning medal round Fred Fawkes led the way with 66 nett to win the Challenge Plate.

Two shots behind was Robin Proctor chased by veterans Trevor Sidwell and Norman Whatmore with 69.

After lunch Whatmore maintained his form with a one-over-par 72 to win the championship on countback from Fawkes.

Steve Young claimed the Cosmos trophy with his second 71 of the day.

The golfers who missed the championship halfway cut played for the Scrubbers Cup after lunch.

Visitor Nick Webb took the spoils on 37 points followed by the 2016 champion Steve Cantrill on 35.
