EVESHAM Rowing Club attracted a large number of entries from a wide range of mainly Midlands clubs to compete in the junior head time-trial competition.

The coaching team, including Simon Edwards, Andy Woodward, Jacob Organ, Dave Parkin, Keith Rafter and Libby Akerman, saw the older crews race over 1,900 metres upstream to the boathouse from the rugby club while younger athletes competed over a short course of 1,400m from the ferry.

Evesham athletes claimed two first-place gold medals.

Following his medal-winning success last year, J14 Sam McClenahan in his single beat nine other competitors to win on the long course in a time of nine minutes 15 seconds, 14 seconds faster than his nearest rival from Ross.

Later in the day, J13 Archie McEwan battled hard to beat his Warwick opponent by 23 seconds over the short course and was followed by Henry Jones in third.

Medals were sponsored and presented by Dave Nutton whose daughter Evie, a member of Evesham but this time representing Cheltenham Ladies' College, beat Evesham’s WJ16 Becca Parkin into second place by just two seconds.

Second places were earned by J18s Callum McIntyre partnered by James Edwards and J16s Toby Haycock and Duncan Repton with J16 team-mates Archie Steele and Tom Lacey taking third in that event.

After a strong finish Becca Parkin and Ella Shalom were unlucky to be beaten into third place after a dead heat for first.

Evesham's volunteers contributed to a safe and enjoyable competition.

The next event in the club calendar is the Masters of the Avon and Senior Head on November 25.
