ECKINGTON under-13s retained the bragging rights over Welland with a 2-0 victory that completed an Evesham Ambassador league and cup double.

Two weeks after beating the same opponents to lift the League Cup, Connor Reid and Tom Shayamapant struck to seal the championship.

Mick Hobbs, who became the Eckington coach at the beginning of the season, said: "Welland have been really tough opponents in our past two games but our lads played some good football during the season. It’s a fantastic achievement for them to win the league and cup double."

The match was in the balance throughout a goalless first half with two special moments deciding matters after the interval.

The deadlock was finally broken midway through the second half with an exquisite free-kick from Reid who bent a right footed shot over the Welland wall and in off the post.

That was quickly followed by an excellent team goal. Some intricate passing from Freddie Sharp, Will Farr and Miller Willis eventually saw Shayamapant played through to finish clinically into the bottom corner.

Welland almost got back into the game with a long range shot that hit the crossbar before James McCabe came off his line to make a great save but Eckington stood firm.
