GLOUCESTERSHIRE prodigy Ambrose Eaves finished as runner-up in his age group at a British Junior Golf Tour event in Surrey on Sunday.

Eaves, aged nine, navigated the tricky course in style to finish second behind Billy Wood (Stoke Park) but ahead of Ronnie Groves (Enville) competing as one of the youngest players in the field.

Over the summer he will focus on junior competitions at his local club Broadway before heading to Cambridge Meridian Golf Club in September to attempt to qualify to represent Britain in the IMG Academy Junior World Championship held in San Diego, USA.

RUGBY: Chipping Norton School’s year-eight rugby team finished runners-up in the Redrow Sevens Bowl final at Northampton Saints.

It was the first time the school had qualified courtesy of their success at the Oxford Sibford Sevens.

Illness and injury forced them to select for most of the matches from a pool of eight players. They lost the final 24-14.
