BROADWAY juniors' captain Scott Davis has been awarded the England Golf Gold Medal.

Davis qualified when he won the club's men’s Division One Medal and then at the age of 16 travelled to Minchinhampton to return a winning 70 nett, beating a field of 54 adults.

He has earned the opportunity to travel to Frilford Heath, Oxfordshire, for the National Trophy finals during England Golf’s Golf Week next month.

The weather had cooled slightly for Broadway ladies' England Golf Medal and Muriel Button competition.

Annabelle Carter recorded 70 nett to take the lead position in the Silver Division.

Ladies' captain Maggie McDivitt came in second with 72 ahead of Julia Fortescue in third with 74.

Nadine Simpkin took top placing in the Bronze Division with 70 leaving Janet Sandalls to seal second with 73 and Jane Atkins third with 74.

The Muriel Button competition was open to all lady veterans with the top three eligible scores in each division sent through to Gloucestershire to be drawn for the prestigious Button Barometer.

All medal winners were included in the eligible group with Louise Folkes added to the list to replace Simpkin.

The men’s invitation brought 38 pairs out for a better-ball contest on a hotter day.

Broadway’s Webb brothers took the field by storm as Bobby along with Michael Haughty from Evesham sealed the lead with 47 points, leaving Steve to clinch second with 46 with Gavin Griffiths from Evesham.

Also with 46 but losing out to third on countback were Broadway’s Mike Humpston and Shaun Thornhill from Kings Norton.

Home player Jeremy Taylor was fourth with 45 alongside Simon Hurley from Celtic Manor.
