EVESHAM United were denied a pre-season friendly home win over higher-ranked Hereford FC last night.

Young midfielder Adam Hockey struck in injury-time to clinch a 1-1 draw for the National League North side at the Jubilee Stadium.

The Southern League Robins opened the scoring on 35 minutes when Ewen Dunbar’s effort hit the post and Corey Simpson tapped home the rebound.

Simpson almost doubled his side’s lead in the second period as he beat several defenders before pushing his shot wide.

Ex-Evesham frontman Lance Smith’s 53rd-minute volley whistled over and new Robins keeper Harvey Rivers made a string of saves before Hockey struck.

Trialist forward Sean Brain impressed and is set to sign for Evesham after leaving county rivals Bromsgrove Sporting.

Manager Paul Collicutt's Robins side had lost 5-0 at home to National League outfit Solihull Moors on Saturday.

Jermaine Hylton scored an early penalty after being fouled by Linden Dovey.

The Robins threatened but were 2-0 down by half-time through Jamey Osborne’s 25-yarder.

Dovey gave away another penalty in the second half which Kwame Thomas converted before Reiss McNally and Callum Coyle completed the scoring.

Evesham previously signed former Forest Green Rovers, Gloucester City and Cirencester Town forward Steve Davies.

The striker or winger, 29, joined up with summer signings Rivers, Nathan Summers, Shayne Anson, Joe Tumelty, Simpson and Marley Thomas.

He scored in a 4-1 friendly defeat at Brimscombe and Thrupp last week.

But defender Andy Lewis has returned to Cinderford Town after spending the second half of last season with the Robins.

Pre-season continues on Thursday when Evesham entertain League Two side Cheltenham Town (7.45pm).

The Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final between Evesham and Redditch United has been moved to Sunday (3pm).

Evesham then host Bath City on Tuesday (7.45pm).
