Tweney stars in a thriller

SATURDAY'S County Lea-gue Division Five hosts Badsey inserted West Malvern and limited them to 170-7.

Opener Wright carried his bat for 79, while the home side's contribution of 40 extras aided the visitors.

Good bowling by Steve Powell earned him figures of 5-42 from 12 overs, while Tim Evans took 2-24 from nine.

O'Connell was in fine form with the ball after tea when he restricted the normal free flowing batting of the Badsey openers.

Unable to master O'Connell, Walker was targeted but, after ten overs, Badsey's reply stood at a sorry 35-3.

A fourth wicket stand of 75 during the next 20 overs between Ian Hardwick (34) and Evans (30) stabilised the reply until the former was caught behind in the 30th over.

When Evans was bowled in the 37th over, Badsey required 45 off 51 balls. Skipper Dave Powell joined Tweney at the crease and the target was reduced to 28 off 27 deliveries with the scoreboard reading143-6.

Osbourne and Tweney remained focused and, after a few scampered runs, the latter hit the winning bou-ndary to lead his side to victory with eight balls rem- aining.
