THE second annual Evesham Lions Football festival took place last Thursday.
Year 9 and 10 pupils from Evesham High School were responsible for the organisation and officiating of the event as part of their Junior Football Organisers award and they conducted themselves brilliantly.
All our partnership Middle Schools were invited to enter a Year 7 team with each team playing a group phase with the qualifiers then competing in the semi-final and final.
The third and fourth place play-off saw Blackminster Middle School claim bronze with a 1-0 victory over Simon de Montfort.
The final was between Abbey Park Middle School from Pershore and Bredon Hill who were quick out of the blocks and raced into a three-goal lead.
Abbey weren't dishear-tened and battled back during the second half to make it 3-3. This meant a period of extra-time when once again Bredon took the lead only for their opponents to level the match in the dying seconds.
The lottery of a penalty shoot-out followed with the Abbey Park goalkeeper proving to be the hero saving a decisive spot-kick.
