He pedalled his famous green Argos cycle to Milton Keynes where he boarded the European Bike Express which took him to Orange in Provence.
Chanin spent the next week cycling over some of the higher Cols in that beautiful region of France including the remarkable Gorges Du Tarn and the famous Mount Ventoux at 1,912 metres Joining up with Graham Smith of the Severn Road Club, the pair tackled some the Alpine passes and the highest point attained was 2,802 metres where the pair witnessed the passage of Le Tour de France.
Not satisfied with the already impressive climbs achieved the pair took in another three Cols before the Vale veteran joined 12,000 other cyclists in Saumur for the Semaine Federal a week of cycling in Loire and Calvados regions of France. Chanin’s wheels hardly stopped turning as he then cycled to Ouistreham for the return back to England having covered 2,200 miles.
