River woes for Arden sailors

SAILORS at the Arden club near Defford had a gargantuan struggle against the River Avon in full flow last Sunday.

Ordinarily great fun, however, as there was little wind the five boats on the water handled by Alan Salerman and Mervin Breakspear (Enterprise), David Stephen (Laser), Malcolm College ( Comet), David Yule (Heron) and David Bryden (Heron) spent more time going backwards!!

One by one the sailors capitulated, beaten by the elements forcing the race to be abandoned.

This was in complete contrast to last Wednesday night’s action when the wind reached force four or five providing perfect conditions.
