Beattie's late leveller extends Littleton's run

Mile Oak Rvrs 1, Littleton 1

SATURDAY’S visitors extended their unbeaten run in Division One of the Midland Combination to seven matches after a game that never reached any great heights.

The hosts elected to kick down the slope with the very strong wind at their backs but the Littleton defence coped well apart from the occasional alarm.

On a sticky surface, it wasn’t easy to play the ball on the ground, so it became mostly a contest of the big boot!

The best chances of the first half fell to Mile Oak as a quickly-taken free-kick saw Lucas through but the alert Danny Edwards did enough to force him to shoot wide.

Littleton’s best move ended with a shot from Matt Layton saved by the keeper at the foot of a post.

The second half saw more chances as the players tired but, much to Littleton's chagrin, the wind dropped almost to nothing!

They opened up the visitors on 55 minutes when a Layton break down the left saw his cross find Grant Pinkney ten yards out but a wicked bounce ended hopes of an opening goal.

The deadlock was finally broken after 65 minutes when, following a breakaway, a Mile Oak striker netted despite Littleton's appeal for offside.

Littleton’s late pressure was rewarded in the 89th minute when Tom Beattie headed in a fine equaliser from a corner.

The club’s second string lost 6-1 to Perrywood in the Jack Mould Trophy, Shipston too suffered knockout misery after a 2-1 home defeat to Clements in the Challenge Urn, while Evesham United A picked up a point after a 3-3 Division Three draw at Coton Green Reserves.

Littleton are away to Droitwich on Saturday in the Worcestershire Junior Cup (1.45) while the reserves entertain Hampton (2pm).

Also in the third division, Shipston Excelsior visit Lichfield City, while Evesham are also on the road with a Challenge Urn second round tie at Henley Forest.
