AT the half-way point of the Evesham & District Table Tennis Association Division One season, Wyre Elite currently sit on top of the table with a two-point lead over nearest rivals Wyre Positives.
Wyre Elite ended 2008 with a 6-4 win against Bengeworth Blue with Choi Sze getting a maximum and remaining only one of two players still yet to be beaten this season. Wyre Elite’s other match was against Littleton Clubs which ended in a 5-5 draw. Once again Choi Sze, To recorded a maximum with Matt Hartwell winning two.
Dave Harvey lost his first match of the season losing to the unbeaten Choi Sze, to 12-10 9-11 9-11 11-13.
Wyre Positives closed the gap on the leaders thanks to two wins to end 2008 on a high.
Despite only having two players available, they were able to defeat Bengeworth Blue 7-3 with both Nick Mytton and Doug Payne recording maximums. Mytton and Payne won the doubles against Craig Norledge & Mike Prior 11-7 10-12 11-5 12-10.
Littleton Aces were the next team to suffer defeat against the Positives with a 9-1 defeat. Nick Mytton once again recorded a maximum along with Geoff Woodward. Duncan Arrandale was the only player to win a game for the Aces as he managed to defeat Payne.
Littleton Clubs are up to third in the table and on the back of their 5-5 draw against leaders Wyre Elite, they managed to defeat Bengeworth Tigers 9-1.
Both Dave Harvey and Steve Foster recorded maximums for the Clubs. Harvey teamed with Ken Savage to defeat Stuart Greene and Bob Price in the doubles 11-4 11-8 11-9.
Littleton 8472 are on the heels of third place Littleton Clubs after finishing 2008 on the same points as their neighbours Littleton clubs.
They finished 2008 with two more wins for the season over Littleton Aces 10-0 and Kington Bulldogs 8-2. Luke Moffat, Tristan Gretton and Rob Sinderberry all recorded maximums against Littleton Aces in a one-sided game. Sinderberry and Gretton gained maximums against Kington Bulldogs.
Littleton Aces are down to fifth but are only a point off both Littleton Clubs and 8472. Despite suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of their neighbours Littleton 8472 they managed to defeat Wyre Livewyre 7-3.
Mark Bilsborrow recorded a maximum for the Livewyre who only had two players available. Duncan Arrandale, Andrew Taylor and Mark Dudley all managed to defeat Mike Vick. Arrandale and Dudley teamed up in the doubles to defeat Bilsborrow and Vick 6-11 13-11 11-8 11-5.
Bengeworth Red ended 2008 with a draw and a loss as they will look to improve in 2009. Their 5-5 draw came against Kington Bulldogs with Chris Pearce on target with a maximum. Pearce got another maximum against Bengeworth Tigers but it was not enough for Bengeworth Red as they were beaten 6-4.
