Harvey drives ahead


EVESHAM and District Table Tennis Association’s finals night saw Dave Harvey claim the Bob Bryant School of Motoring men’s singles after a three-set win (11-4, 11-8, 11-2) over defending champion Chris Pearce.

In the semi-finals earlier in the night, Harvey won a close five-set match against Littleton 8472’s Tristan Gretton winning, 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 4-11 11-4, while Pearce defeated Matt Hartwell in four sets 8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-8.

Harvey teamed up with Ken Savage to win the Cotswold Provisions Limited men’s doubles, with a four-set win over the team of Nick Mytton and Doug Payne.

Mytton and Payne started the match off well taking the first set, but Harvey and Savage came back to win the next three sets and claim the title 8-11, 11-8, 14-12, 11-4.

Harvey and Mytton met once again in the Pete Bott Skips veteran singles with Harvey coming out on top, winning in three sets 11-6, 11-2, 11-9.

In the Littleton TTC women’s singles final, Lynda Reid retained her title with a 14-12, 6-11, 11-6, 14-12 win over Aileen Phillips.

In the Happy Little Sole junior boy’s singles it was Chris Pearce who came out on top with a three-set win over Jack Davis 11-4, 11-5, 11-4.

The Happy Little Sole junior girl’s singles went to Ella Parry Reece, who won all four of her matches to win the title.

The MK Technical Services Handicap singles title went to Tristan Gretton (0), who won the match in three sets against fellow Littleton club-mate Andrew Taylor (+4) 11-9, 11-8, 11-8.

The Sunsational Vertical Tanning Centres mixed doubles title went to Harvey and Peggy Mytton, who defeated Matt Hartwell and Phillips in three sets 11-8, 11-9, 11-5.

The Schi’zo junior drawn doubles went to Pearce and Gemma McKay, who recorded a 11-5, 5-11, 13-11, 6-11, 15-13 over Davis and Shannon Johns.

The GLB veteran drawn doubles went to Harvey and Paul Smith, who defeated Savage and Ray Griffiths 11-9, 11-7, 8-11, 14-12 to claim the title.

The RK Services veteran women’s singles went to defending champion Phillips who won in a group of five winning all four of her matches to win the title.

The trophies were presented by Les Jobson at the event, held at Bengeworth Church House.
