Bret remain leaders

Bretforton 219-6, Overbury 70 all out.

BRETFORTON cruised to a comprehensive 149-run win over Overbury to stay as leaders of the Cotswold Hills League Premier Division.

Overbury captain Adam Brookes, won the toss and asked Bretforton to bat.

Bretforton lost the first wicket on 47 when Brett Woods got a ball that cut in and Davies bowled him.

Paul Jones followed shortly afterwards when the ball bounced off his foot and hit his stumps and he was bowled for 31 with the score on 50.

Stuart Berry joined Andrew Stanley to try and rebuild the Bretforton innings.

The Overbury bowlers bowled a good line and length and it was difficult to increase the run-rate.

At the drinks break, Bretforton were only 62-2 off 23 overs.

Berry and Stanley decided to up the run-rate and Stanley reached his fifty.

They kept working the Overbury to all parts of the park.

Berry was eventually run out in the 39th over with the score on 197, which was excellent partnership with Stanley of 147.

Twin brother Matthew Stanley joined Andrew who was on 88 and closing in on a maiden Premier League century. Matthew was bowled for one trying to give his brother the strike.

Stewart Langstone was also bowled trying to give Andrew the strike to reach his hundred. It came down to Andrew needing five runs in the final over.

Unfortunately, he was caught for an excellent 96 off 108 balls. Bretforton reached 219-6 off their allotted 45 overs.

Craig Griffith and Paul Jones took the new ball and Jones struck in his first over when he had Bunn lbw for four.

Both opening bowlers bowled a very tight line and length and scoring was very difficult.

Paul Jones bowled young Arnett, when tried to hit across the line and a straight delivery.

Griffiths then bowled Ali Munro and Overbury were struggling at 30-3.

Matt Stanley and Alex Evans ripped through the Overbury line-up as they reached 70 all out.
