Junior Football

Alveston Colts u12s 0, Badsey Rangers u12s 1.

THIS fixture was spoilt by the strong wind and rain which made it difficult for both sides to play their normal attractive football.

The first-half saw Badsey with the wind, but that advantage was not capitalised on, with first Jordan Nailor hitting a post and having an effort cleared of the line.

With Nathan Bolland, Ryan Attwood and Robbie Wallace running the midfield, chances constantly presented themselves.

Matthew Knight saw two chances go wide and Tom Benfield had two efforts well saved by the Alveston keeper.

Charlie Bannings and Robbie Wallace also had great chances saved before the move of the match left Knight’s shot just wide.

The second-half opened with Alveston with the wind and they exploited it with some great chancees. But with Tom Farrell, Will Farrell and James Spencer in brilliant form at the back for Badsey the score sheet stayed blank.

Half-way through the second period a penalty was awarded to Alveston but it was wasted when it was blazed wide.

Alveston were punished when the dangerous Benfield won a corner five minutes from time. From the resulting corner, Spencer fired home the only goal of the game.

Saul Haycock cleared off the line just before the end and with Josh Mann in the Rangers goal in fantastic form, the victory was Badsey’s.

Badsey Rangers u12s 5, Morton Stanley Rangers u12s 1.

BADSEY took the lead in the first minute when a Charlie Banning corner was turned in by Bolland.

Rangers doubled their lead five minutes later when Ryan Attwood squeezed his shot under the keeper.

Moments later after a scramble in the Badsey defence let Morton Stanley pull a goal back.

Just before half-time Badsey went 3-1 up with a shot into the top corner by Knight.

The second-half belonged to Badsey and they sealed the win through a Tom Benfield strike five minutes from time. With a minute to go Danny Evans scored a great solo goal.

Bidford u14s 3, Pershore u14s 3.

BIDFORD entertained Pershore on a blustery day at the Big Meadow.

In a game influenced by the conditions, Pershore had the wind behind them in the first period and took full advantage.

Harry Poole marshalled Bidford’s rearguard action well and the defence stood firm for much of the Pershore onslaught.

Kyle Annis was outstanding at left- back and Patrick Sullivan and Jack Dunbar worked tirelessly in support.

However, they were unable to prevent Pershore breaking through and taking the lead on 20 minutes.

Brave goalkeeping from Howland prevented further additions until shortly before the break when the Pershore winger chipped home.

The second-half swung with the wind and Bidford’s midfield started to create chances for the forward line.

Joe Denham played through Alex Grant on two occasions but the striker was unable to convert with his unfavoured left foot.

However, on 50 minutes, James Mudie dispossessed a Pershore defender and rounded the keeper to slot home. Shortly afterwards Josh Haines curled a first-time strike beyond the Pershore keeper to level the scores.

Pershore forced their way back into the game and beat the offside trap with 10 minutes left to regain the lead.

However, the last kick of the match saw Mudie’s lofted corner sweep past the stranded Pershore keeper.

Badsey Rangers u14s 9, Cleeve Colts u14s 0.

BADSEY Rangers u14s returned to action after a fortnight’s break and continued their good run of form with an emphatic victory over Cleeve Colts u14s.

But for some woeful finishing and heroics shown by the visitor’s keeper, Badsey could have easily hit double figures and, as it was, the goals were shared around the team.

James Mudie set Rangers off with a hat-trick in the first 15 minutes. He grabbed a fourth in the second-half.

Joe Gisbourne hit two penalties, Will Gillett and Alex Robinson were also among the scorers.

Evesham United Robins u11s 2, Finton United u11s 1.

EVESHAM started lively with Dominic Taylor and Bradley Izod causing problems on the flanks without creating any clear-cut chances.

Finton gained confidence and pushed Evesham back to keep the game goalless at half-time. After the break, Evesham kept plugging away without any joy until a through-ball found Johnathon Robinson who poked the ball home. With Evesham on top, they created a few chances with William Warren and Thomas Backx going close. After a run by Robinson, Jake Humphries scored from close range to make it 2-0. Finton came back into the game and scored a good individual goal, but Evesham hung on for an unconvincing win.

Pershore Town u11s 1, Pershore United u11s 4.

CONDITIONS were difficult for both teams with a strong wind, driving rain and a slippery, bumpy pitch.

This contributed a fair number of mistakes but lead to a competitive derby.

The first-half was initially dominated by United but poor final passes and good defending restricted the number of shots on target to a few. Town then broke with purpose and only some timely interceptions by defenders Way and Butler prevented attempts on Scott Cory’s goal.

However, United again demonstrated their frailty when their player was robbed in his own half and a left-wing cross the Town striker with the opportunity to fire past an unprotected Cory.

This appeared to rouse United and Alex Stayte beat two defenders on the left to find the unmarked Harry White who beat an exposed keeper.

The second-half started much as the first with both teams continuing to lose the ball in promising situations.

The game changed considerably when quick action by White and Stayte at a short corner enabled Stayte to strike a left-foot shot past an unsighted Town keeper.

One such move involved several players and resulted in Stayte hitting an unstoppable shot into the top corner in a dominant display.

Shortly after, a similar move saw Brad Thompson beat three players in the Town box.

His shot was parried by the keeper but Stayte was on hand to apply the finishing touch from a yard.
