Evesham u11s 7, Malvern ‘B’ u12s 17.
IN the first-half Evesham withstood pressure from the visitors, whose powerful forwards had to be forced back time and again.
When they did break out, dropped passes and knock-ons gave the ball away.
In the set-piece the scrum started to show some mettle with the front row Giovanni Capaldi, Lewis Cochrane and Marcus Harris putting in good drives to give Cameron Gray some clean ball.
But it was in the maul they lost most ball and this finally told late in the first-half when the visitors ripped the ball clear and ran in a try because of poor defensive tackling.
The second-half was more of the same with heroic mauling and tackling on their own line, Sam Riley, Gray and Marcus Harris could not stem the tide and two more well executed tries by Malvern followed.
In the last quarter a probing attack down the right-wing by Lewis Woodford saw him go over for the Avonsiders only try.
Evesham u12s.
EVESHAM u12s were at home against Malvern and Claverdon in a three-team mini tournament.
But in their first clash a strong Malvern team beat Evesham 54-0.
The second game saw Malvern take on Claverdon with the score 7-7.
Evesham faced Claverdon and suffered a 14-7 defeat.
Both teams ran the ball well but the Evesham mid-match tackling practice had paid off with some crunchers going in from Harry Howells, Joe Tryner, Dylan Cross, Michael Goonewardena and Tom Farrell. Max Frost, Ryan Dudfield, Tom MacDonald and Joby Cornwall drove forward throughout the match gaining valuable yards and off-loaded to support player Charlie Roberts, who piled over the line for a score that was converted by Farrell. Claverdon went over the line in the first-half and Evesham had a few chances in the second just metres from the Claverdon line but could not convert.
A Claverdon try in the last few minutes sealed it in an improved Evesham display despite the final score.
Evesham Girls.
EVESHAM Girls travelled to Yardley for a their latest tournament of the season.
In the group stages they were drawn against Old Salts, Comets and Bournville.
None of the three teams provided any serious opposition to the Evesham girls who settled well and scored 25 tries across the three games. They conceded only five.
The other group winners, Yardley, were in equally impressive form, progressing to the final with ease.
This set up a repeat of the previous final which the Evesham girls won comfortably.
Evesham captain Josie Symonds, rallied the team to close the gap to four tries to three by half-time and give the girls a chance of victory.
The second-half belonged to Evesham with Rhiannon Donnahey, Holly Ison and Sarah Higley running in five tries between them.
Yardley scored with the last movement of the game to tie at 7-7 and take the game to extra-time.
In extra-time both teams scored a further two tries which moved the game into a fifth period golden try scenario. From the kick-off, Evesham controlled the ball and moved it swiftly through the centres and out to Fran Pratt on the wing, who ran in the winning try from 25 metres.
Bredon Buzzards suffered a 25-20 defeat to Cheltenham u12s. Evesham u9s beat Claverdon 5-1 and Tewkesbury 7-3.
