Bluck Cup final spot is sealed by Defford

Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League.

HOLDERS Defford/Besford United defeated much-fancied Black Bear to reach the Bluck Cup final.

Black Bear led through Petitt and Brazdys before goals from Francombe and Barton took the game into extra-time.

Petitt completed his hat-trick but it was in vein as goals from Marsden, Francombe and Gary Lawson saw Defford home. No team has retained the Bluck Cup in its current format.

Unfortunately, despite dominating much of the game, Red Horse lost out in the Worcestershire FA Junior Cup semi-final to Studley Road Old Boys.

Upton Snodsbury closed the gap at the top of Division One with an eight-goal win at Golden Cross.

An Andrews hat-trick and McLean (2) were among the scorers. Mickleton Rangers moved third with a win at Inkberrow. Rangers’ goals came from Beach, Gabb, Tustin, Mills and Tye.

Second division leaders Cider Mill were held at Vauxhall.

Reading and Derbyshire gave the home side a two-goal lead before goals from Stanley levelled matters.

Alderton picked up valuable points against faltering Eckington, thanks to goals from Cutnall, Stocks, Keithley and Adams.

Tesco United maintained their promotion push, defeating Honeybourne with goals from Worthington, Smith-Daniel and Morris.

Third division leaders Ashton were brought down to earth as they were well beaten by WMK.

Leary (2), Jackson, A Nassar and J Nassar scored the goals. Second-placed Fladbury Athletic closed the gap.

Elsewhere, a Tom Heath double defeated Broadway United Reserves.

Lenches Lions moved third as second-half goals from White and Unwin turned the game at Northway, for whom Rolands scored.

In Division Four, Steve Sprigg was on target for Pebworth as they surprised third-placed Fish & Anchor.

The Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League are seeking applications from prospective new teams for next season. Teams must have a suitable ground and changing facilities and be based within 20 miles of Evesham.

Applications should be made no later than April 30 to league secretary Martin Malin.
