Robins fall to further league loss

Nuneaton Town 2, Evesham United 0.

EVESHAM United never looked like ending Nuneaton's unbeaten home record in the Zamaretto League Premier Division enabling the hosts to complete a comfortable league double.

Two second-half goals were enough to send Paul West's men tumbling to their eighth defeat in 10 games and remain winless since December 15.

There was little to choose between the two sides in the first-half despite the gulf in league placings.

Indeed, it was Evesham's Jamie Hyde who came closest to breaking the deadlock when his cross-shot took Darren Acton in the Boro goal by surprise and rattled the crossbar before being cleared.

It was to be the Robins' only effort on goal with Nuneaton in the box seat after the break.

Just five minutes of the second-half had elapsed when Nuneaton made the breakthrough.

The Evesham defence got in a tangle attempting to clear James Armson's corner, presenting Lee Moore with the simple task of prodding home.

It got worse for Evesham when the lead was doubled 12 minutes later.

Rob Oddy dispossessed Michael Hayden before finding the unmarked Chris Dillon who slipped the ball past goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan in the bottom corner.

Vaughan prevented Nuneaton a third in the closing stages, going down at his near post to save from the impressive Oddy and then Dillon rounded the Evesham stopper only to fire into the side-netting with the goal at his mercy.

Evesham United: Vaughan, Watson, Hyde, Hodnett, Luckett, Lutz (Costello 16), Fitter, Hands (Curtis 74), Palmer, Ducros, McKenzie (Hayden 57). Subs not used: Ravenhill, Mace. Attendance: 844.
