EVESHAM Rowing Club enjoyed mixed success at Henley, Nottingham and Ironbridge.

The junior 18 boys’ coxless quad and a junior 15 boys’ coxed four entered the Henley qualifiers in a bid to row at Henley Royal Regatta.

Despite beating 27 other crews, Jordan Bunyan, Lawrence Sullivan, Henry House and Josh Sexton missed out on a place in the Fawley Cup by a boat length.

The coxed four of Jack Towers, Ross McIldowie, James Waterhouse and Alex Russell (coxed by Zoe Thomas) competed in a men’s event and, despite beating five crews, were out of the running for qualifying.

However, all was not lost for Evesham supporters at Henley as junior 16 Ed Surman qualified for the Fawley Cup in a composite crew with boys from Leander, Wycliffe and Bewl Bridge.

As the only J16 boy at Evesham, Surman has spent the season dividing his time between Evesham and Leander.

For the women, Aimee Rutherford put in a good performance in the Junior 17 single sculls to reach the semi-final before losing to the eventual winner from Runcorn.

A large contingent of junior and senior rowers also attended Ironbridge Regatta with wins for Amy Jones in the WJ16 single and for Teagan Parsons and Emily Waters in the WJ15 double.

The junior 16 girls’ coxed four of Natasha Bradley, Olivia Walklett, Laura Attwood and Hayley Pawlowski won in convincing style against their opponents from Stourport.

Michael Smith won the Open Novice single scull event, while Dave Pollard and Tony Rowlands won the masters ‘D’ doubles.

At Nottingham, Surman and James Waterhouse put in a bid for selection for the GB-France u16 match.

Unfortunately, their efforts were ended following damage to the boat after a collision going down to the start of the doubles race.
