STOW-on-the-Wold returned to winning ways in the Berks/Bucks and Oxon Premier Division with a 55-17 triumph at Gosford All Blacks.
Following the previous weekend’s shock 25-24 defeat at lowly Phoenix, Stow had a stronger team available and started off playing into a strong breeze.
Gosford, much-improved this year, repelled early pressure and grabbed a converted try under the posts following a scrum.
Stow replied five minutes later after good forward pressure and the in-form John Ford crashed over from a maul with Nick Cafearo converting.
Full-back Cafearo collected a kick, booted ahead and got a lucky bounce to run in under the posts before kicking a penalty to make it 17-10 at half-time.
The game was even for 15 minutes after the break until Tim Peachey charged down and scored the try which gave Stow a clear lead.
It was increased when Cam Davidson ran a good angle to score under the posts.
Gosford replied with a converted try but Stow, in full flow, finished the match with tries by Hugo Griffiths (2), Cafearo and Will Ford.
Meanwhile, Stow’s Will Goodrick-Clarke, who plays for Gloucester Academy and attends Chipping Campden School, has won a place in the England Under 16s elite squad, following in the footsteps of Elliott Stooke with the under 20s.
