DANNY Johnson clocked a new Oulton Park personal best lap time but missed out on points for Evesham-based National Superstock team JD Racing.

The 26-year-old had scored championship points at the last six events but the qualifying sessions in Cheshire on his Kawasaki ZX-10R race bike did not go well.

Johnson started on the fifth row in 19th place after the machine’s clutch slipped, preventing him reaching top gear. It was decided radical alterations were too risky before the race.

The clutch problem stopped Johnson getting off the line quickly and he fell to 39th before the first corner but was 26th after lap one.

Over the next eight circuits, Johnson moved up to 17th place when two riders crashed ahead of him, causing the race to be stopped.

Johnson was fourth fastest through the speed trap along the start-finish straight alongside his best lap time.
