Delport is back with a bang
10:40am Friday 17th August 2012 in Sport
HARVINGTON remain second in Worcestershire League Division Three after a fine three-wicket victory over Harborne thirds.
On winning the toss and electing to field, Harvington struggled to take wickets against stubborn batting.
James Towey’s 4-40 off 11 overs was the pick of the attack as Harborne finished on 239-6 in 50 overs. In reply, Harvington lost openers Dave Waters and Andrew Fisher early on which brought the returning Andre Delport to the crease.
Delport showed how he had been missed with a brutal display of hard hitting to give the innings real momentum.
When he was dismissed for 92 on 150-6, the loss of Chris Andrews brought skipper Simon Price (41 not out) to the crease with Ben Hawker (39no).
They batted sensibly, putting on 84 for the eighth wicket to give their side victory with two overs left.
Harvington seconds lost to Romsley and Hunnington by 63 runs in Division Three despite bowling the visitors out for 169, thanks to 15- year-old Tom Heywood (3- 22) and Dave Moulson (3- 37).
But opener John Burman (41) was unable to prevent Harvington being dismissed for 116.
Harvington’s Sunday side beat Old Westheathians by 67 runs with an unbeaten 100 for Jo Venter and four wickets for Moulson.
