BROADWAY retained their Concorde League title after victory at Overbury. But it proved to be a much closer affair than Broadway would have wanted.
After 10 ends they were one shot adrift but a surge in the next five ends, particularly from Mick Aubrey’s rink who scored 13 shots without reply, saw Broadway edge ahead by 19 shots, winning on three of the five rinks.
Broadway maintained this advantage to the 20th end when they stood 18 shots ahead. But a lapse in concentration on the last end saw them drop 11 shots to win by seven shots, 97-90, scoring 12 points.
Rink Scores : A M-Russell, B Ford, D Bartlett, S Aldren lost 16-19; D Leroy, B Sturgess, H Keyte, R J Oliver won 21-19; P Groom, N Furminger, D Cresswell, A Beale lost 14-19; P Smith, D Oldcorn, G Foster, M Aubrey won 30-10; R Bryant, J Harris, M Rainbow, D Hall lost 16-23.
- Broadway ladies have achieved 100 per cent success by winning all of their matches, both Concorde League and friendlies, this season.
Going into their final game at home against Overbury ladies they had the cushion of having already won the league but their 83-46 win over Overbury sealed their undefeated record. They compete in the final stages of the Top Club competition at Leamington Spa.
Broadway will face Croydon Bowling Club in the quarter-final on Saturday and, if successful, will proceed to the semi-final and final held on Sunday.
