Evesham make it four wins from four
8:00am Friday 12th October 2012 in Sport
EVESHAM made it four wins out of four in Midlands Three West (South) with a 29-22 victory at Ledbury.
The visitors played well and took advantage of several missed tackles from the Ross Road side, who were also penalised for several technical infringements.
From one needless penalty, Evesham took a quick tap and scored a converted try after 12 minutes.
Ledbury hit back with a trademark try from Jock Welch following a line-out drive and, although Evesham soon converted a penalty, Paul Williams dived over after strong running from broken play.
Fly-half Tom Biggs’ conversion put Ledbury 12-10 ahead but just before the break Evesham went ahead again with a converted try of their own.
Poor tackling resulted in two further tries for the Vale visitors to give them a 29-12 advantage with an hour on the clock.
Ledbury, however, then played their most controlled rugby of the match with skipper Tom Dines finishing a forward drive, converted by Dave Barley.
The hosts laid siege to the opposition line but, despite going close, they could not quite get past an excellent defence.
Barley struck a fine penalty with the last kick of the game to ensure Ledbury secured a losing bonus point.
- Evesham under 17s narrowly defeated Bromsgrove 19-17 at home in an enthralling North Midlands League clash.
The visitors started strongly and scored two early tries and Bromsgrove dominated at the breakdown.
Evesham’s first points came when Iain Stoddart caught a line-out for Evesham’s forwards to drive captain Matt Camp over the line with Mike Harris converting.
Wilf Watson’s unconverted try gave the hosts a 12-10 half-time lead.
Bromsgrove regained the lead with a converted try before Dom Berry crashed over with three minutes to go and Harris converted to win the match.
- Evesham U15s earned a hard-fought 17-12 victory at Camp Hill in the North Midlands Cup first round.
Jack Evans, Harry Howells and Harry Jacob scored the tries, the latter adding a conversion. The U16s lost 12-0 at Bredon
- The U13s started their season with a 12-7 success against Bredon, tries coming from Ollie Gould and Will Bugg, while the udner 12s drew 14-14 with their Bredon counterparts.
