Honda in two-way battle for Brit title
9:40am Saturday 20th October 2012 in Sport
PERSHORE-based Honda Yuasa Racing have two drivers in with a chance of winning the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend.
Matt Neal could be only the second person to win the title four times but team-mate Gordon Shedden tops the standings.
He is 15 points ahead of Jason Plato with Neal 31 behind the leader and Andrew Jordan in fourth.
Neal broke his hand in a motorbike accident last month and endured three retirements at Silverstone in the last meeting.
But he said: “There’s no way I’m giving up on defending my title and, after a tough time at Silverstone, which we didn’t deserve, I’m really fired up.”
However, Neal knows he may have to become a team player in order to secure success for Shedden, who said: “I’m feeling relaxed and actually quietly confident. I’d rather have the points in the bag any day of the week.”
Fellow Pershore team Rob Austin Racing, now known as Wixracing.co.uk, will look for success in their Audi A4s.
