DUMBLETON and Ashton-under-Hill remain unbeaten in the Worcestershire Indoor League Evesham Division behind leaders Bredon.

Pershore (95 all out) lost to holders Ashton-under-Hill (96-2) with 11 balls left after a mixed display.

A total of 120 looked likely before Pershore’s Leon Wiffen picked up an injury in the middle of an over.

They got off to a strong start as batsman Liam Ridings launched an assault and retired in the second over with the score on 31-1 after Luke Dalley’s run-out.

Adam Wiffen followed but Chris Ayliffe (23) and Charlie Cross (22) repaired the innings before falling to Joe Nishi (3-34).

The bowler also had the returning Ridings stumped without addition.

Pershore’s final wicket fell with three overs left as they slumped from 90-2 in just five balls.

Ashton’s reply began badly as Will Archer was run-out quickly but John Cooper (26 not out) and Richard Cooper (28no) steadied the ship, leaving Mahesh Patel (16) and Nishi to finish the job.

Dumbleton (119-5) beat Alcester and Ragley (85 all out) by 34 runs with seven balls remaining.

Matthew Nicholson (19) and Phillip Patterson (40) took Dumbleton to 46 before the former was run-out.

Adam Stuart (31no) retired before Mark Woolley (2-25) helped reduce the villagers from 78-1 to 83-4.

Thirty-two was added in the last two overs with the loss of Patterson to a run-out.

Alcester fell to 38-3 thanks to lbw calls from James Russell and Stuart.

Richard Nicholls (22) and Steve Capron (14) toiled but were only halfway to the target after eight overs and the game was up.

On Tuesday, Dumbleton play Pershore and Ashton-under-Hill face Alcester and Ragley.
