PROMOTED Pershore host Streetly in their Birmingham Cricket League Division Three opener at The Bottoms tomorrow (noon).
The town look to build on last season’s record-breaking success when their three senior teams each won their Worcestershire League divisions.
A new challenge in the tougher environment of the Birmingham competition awaits Pershore, who hope their young first XI, led by Chris Ridings, can compete well.
All-rounder Joe Taylor has returned from Old Elizabethans, while Pershore have acquired some younger players from within the county and further afield.
With Taylor Pugh and Matt Brace, the county league’s top performing bowlers last year, Pershore are confident of a strong showing this time around.
Chairman Phil Oxley believes this will be a defining season for the club.
He said: “With the club on an upward curve, I anticipate we can draw on last season’s triumphs and raise the bar even higher.
“The nurturing and development of our junior players was a key component to last season’s success.
“They thrived on the responsibility and put in outstanding performances week in, week out.
“We have deliberately rejected the option of an overseas player again this year to build on the current crop of homegrown talent complemented with several experienced players. These are exciting times for the club.”
