Against previously unbeaten Stanway, Ashton dismissed Josh Colwell (12) in the third over but then Paul Evans (41no) and Pete Green (39) took the score to 70-1 after seven.

Archer scored 26 in nine balls to retire but brother Tom soon retired hurt and Cooper departed.

Mahesh Patel took eight balls to get to 25 and retirement before a run-out saw Will Archer return.

From 103-2, Ashton hobbled to 118-3 with six balls to go but Patel eventually scrambled leg byes for the victory.

Matt Nicholson (46no) and Adam Stuart (28no) led the way but the younger batsmen ran themselves out with only Ollie Horne (19) staying long.

Alcester’s innings failed to take off despite 33no from Adam Warbrick and late bursts from Ollie Swinburn (17) and Ben Shuttleworth (16).
