Ashton-under-Hill 145-2, Overbury 64-6.
BATTING first in this Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League fixture, Ashton-under-Hill’s Richard Cooper and Will Archer put 51 on the board from the first four overs.
When they retired, Elliott Seal and Jason Glacier continued the mayhem and, in the next four overs, doubled the score to build a great platform for the final push. Glacier was well-caught off Jeremy Brooks and with Seal having to retire, it was Adam Shirra and Mike Banks who joined the party to add a further 40 leaving Overbury facing a total of 145.
Des Haines and skipper Jamie Munro found the bowling of Shirra difficult to get away and Archer at the other end was also causing problems. But it was always going to be Ashton’s night.
Overbury realised that to score at eight-an-over was pointless and, in trying to up the scoring rate, both Munro and Adam Brooks were run out with only 16 runs on the board.
Debutant Tom Walker showed his mettle with some lusty blows but when he fell to a Seal slower ball the end was in sight.
Tim Baldwin was bowled for a golden duck and Banks accounted for Jeremy Brooks to leave Ashton the winners by 81 runs.
Great Alne 96-6, Boxmen 90-6.
GREAT Alne were asked to bat first and lost two early wickets when opener Dave Coll was run-out and Arrun Batchelor had Matt Walters adjudged lbw with only 14 runs scored.
But skipper Steve Temple was in excellent form with the bat and, with Will Pethick, put on 50 to have 68 on the board after eight overs.
Then Temple had to retire and Pethick was run-out, bringing David Davies and James Cawthorn together.
But Davies lasted only five balls bringing Temple back.
Together with Cawthorn, a further valuable 20 were added before Temple was bowled by David Lawrence and Cawthorn run out off the penultimate ball.
But the usually fluent Pete Green was having an off night and could not get the ball away and Jason Haines could only stand at the other end and watch.
Cawthorn was bowling an immaculate line and length and after only 10 runs had been scored after four overs he clean bowled Green and three balls later had Haines caught to have Boxmen reeling at 26-2 at their halfway stage. Skipper David Lawrence and father John put on another 20 runs before Pethick dismissed David and when Ben Gilbert was run-out it looked like the end.
But Batchelor and John Lawrence smashed another 20 leaving only 12 required off the final over.
But it was not to be and Great Alne kept their cool accounting for both batsmen with some great fielding to seal a six-run win.
