Harvington grab win

Harvington 116-3, Overbury 78-6.

HARVINGTON cemented their place at the top of the Evesham WCB Indoor Cricket League when they outclassed Overbury who were lacking the firepower of their regular opening batsmen.

Harvington batted first and skipper Simon Price, ably abetted by Adam Lee, went along comfortably at 10-an-over and had posted 60 by the halfway stage.

But when both openers had to retire, the picture changed dramatically.

When 13-year-old Josh Tamcken came on to bowl his first two balls went for runs but the late in-swing of his third delivery was just too good for James Towey.

Then, with the first ball of his second over, he clean bowled Andy Green to have Harvington on the back-foot.

When, six runs later, Pete Smith was run-out, Harvington were beginning to wobble at 80-3.

But Lee returned to join Sam Cross and added a valuable 36 in the last three overs to set a target of 116.

With a requirement of only 10-an- over in their sights, Tom Walker and Rob Maizonnier opened for Overbury and took 14 off the first over. In only the second over, attempting the impossible, they were both run-out off successive balls and, in the next over, Cross clean bowled Jon Davis to have Overbury reeling on 25-3.

Tim Baldwin and Jack Wood did their best to rectify matters and added 20 before Lee, who was fielding at deep mid-off noticing that Wood was standing outside his cease threw down his wicket from 30 yards. Then Lee quickly accounted for Tamcken to leave Baldwin on his own facing the inevitable and losing his wicket off the penultimate ball.

Dumbleton 138-1, The Boxmen 108-3.

DUMBLETON kept their undefeated record when they managed to overcome Boxmen.

Skipper Pete Boorman and Andy Carson gave Dumbleton a solid start with 63 on the board at the halfway stage.

In an attempt to confuse, The Boxmen kept changing their bowlers but this tactic backfired and when the openers had to retire, Matt Nicholson and Andy Powell added another 25 in good time before Nicholson was well stumped by Jason Haines off Jon Williams.

Then Calum Carson joined Powell and together they added 50 before Powell also had to retire.

Andy Green joined Carson and they added another 20, posting a total of 138-1.

The Boxmen’s reply saw Haines dismissed.

With only 19 on the board after four overs, skipper David Lawrence put bat firmly to ball and added a quick-fire 20.

But when he had to retire father John was bowled by Andy Carson to have The Boxmen two wickets down at the halfway stage with only 41 scored.

Debutant Oli Lynott-May scored 25 but his side lost by 30 runs.
