Dumbleton edge tie

Overbury 86-3, Dumbleton 90-1.

A YOUNG Overbury side batted first in this WCB Indoor League match and Josh Arnett and Jack Wood scored briskly.

After Arnett’s retirement, Rob Maizonnier continued in the same way and after six overs the score was 55-0.

However, Wood and Arnett were eventually out with three overs left with the score on 75.

The remainder of the innings was an anti-climax with 86 the total.

For Dumbleton, the highlight was occasional bowler Gareth Reid, who had a return of 1-3 off two overs.

Although Dumbleton lost Reid in the second over the youngsters, Matt Nicholson and Callum Carson, took the game by the scruff of the neck and, by the time both retired with 28 and 27 respectively, the match was won.

Adam Stuart and Andy Powell scored the winning runs with three overs to spare. The final total of 90-1 contained 14 wides.

Harvington 83-4, Ashton-under-Hill 84-0 THIS match, between two unbeaten teams, was expected to be a close one.

Harvington, batting first, pushed the self-destruct button and, by halfway were 37-3 and this soon became 43-4 off seven overs.

The bowling was fairly tight with Adam Shirra returning figures of 1-17 off his allotment of overs.

James Tovey and Andy Green attempted to recover the innings and played out the remaining overs sensibly.

They achieved some sort of respectability at 83-4 with Tovey (15) and Green (20) but the damage had been done earlier.

Ashton, however, will look at the 17 wides they bowled with some concern.

In reply, Ashton scored without much fuss and at halfway were 63-0 with Richard Cooper retiring on 27. At this point Harvington decided to change their strategy and began to use the short-pitched ball in order to slow the run-rate.

This was achieved to some extent as it took Mahesh Patel and Tom Archer another four overs to reach 84-0. In this innings there were 18 wides.

The results above leave Dumbleton and Ashton as the two remaining unbeaten sides and their clash on March 9 could be the deciding game of the season.
