Weakened side shows spirit in defeat

Evesham Utd Ladies 0, Ferndale 18

AN UNDER strength United slumped to another heavy defeat when the took on league leaders Ferndale at Pershore on Sunday.

Playing against a strong wind in the first half did not affect the visitors as they found themselves four goals up inside the first nine minutes.

Goals then came at regular intervals as the visitors built up a nine-goal lead by half-time.

United had a better start to the second half and defended stubbornly for the first 15 minutes by getting bodies in the way as the visitors surged forward with the strong wind at their backs.

However, a six-goal burst in a ten-minute spell showed up the difference in class between the two sides as the visitors played the ball around well and finished clinically at every opportunity.

A great goalkeeping display by stand-in keeper Lucy Taylor foiled the visitors on numerous occasions and prevented an even heavier reverse.

Although it must be soul destroying to continue to lose heavily, the Evesham girls didn't let their heads drop and battled gamely to the end.

Evesham visit Ross Town Strikers on Sunday for a Kidderminster Hospital Cup quarter-final.
