United target new signings

EVESHAM United manager Paul West has targeted at least three new additions to his squad over the summer after his side finished ninth in the British Gas Business Premier Division following a 2-1 win at Hitchin Town.

The Robins chief was ‘absoluately delighted’ ’ with his players after they finished their season on a high with a victory that relegated their opponents.

Although the win secured 10th place in the table for United, they have subsequently moved up a place to ninth after Halesowen Town were docked three points for fielding an ineligible player.

But West has already turned his attentions to next year and warned that his team will find it tougher next season to succeed in what is shaping up to be an even more competitive division.

United also finished just nine points off the final play-off place after a long and hard season that often saw them struggle with a series of injuries to key players, including captain Steve Lutz and Danny Scheppel.

West said: “We will be looking at players with experience at our level or above, but we will also be looking at players to come up through our ranks as well.

“It will be tough to recruit these types of players but I will do my utmost.

“I’m not going to talk about the play-offs for next year. I just want us to compete regularly in this division.

“I will obviously look to bring in a few fresh faces over the summer as it’s important that we do that and I hope to keep the nucleus of the current squad.

“We had a great taste of the division this season but it will be tougher for us next year as we won’t be that unknown quantity anymore that we have been this year.

“Each player who has come into the team has stuck to their task. It’s been a fantastic effort by everybody. The management staff has had to chip in.

“At the start of the season most people at the club would have been happy to have finished fifth from bottom but I’m absolutely delighted with where we have finished.”
