Merthyr Tydfil 2, Evesham United 1.
EVESHAM United went down to their second successive defeat in the Zamaretto League Premier Division last night and are still to record their first-ever victory over the Martyrs.
Despite the setback, Evesham made an ideal start taking a 15th minute lead.
Nathan Vaughan's deep free-kick was helped on by Steve Lutz to Marcus Palmer and Evesham's leading scorer made no mistake with a trademark finish past Andrew Delve.
Merthyr's first effort on goal arrived on the half-hour when player/manager Gary Shephard blazed over before limping off injured moments later. His replacement, Marcus Griffiths, made an immediate impact tucking away Cortez Belle's cross to pull the home side level after 39 minutes.
Clear-cut chances were hard to come by as both sides cancelled each other out in the second-half.
That was until the winner arrived 15 minutes from time. Tariq Khalil's free-kick was met by Belle, who rose highest to head home from 10 yards.
The Welshmen finished the stronger and were denied a third when Vaughan went full stretch superbly saving Griffith's goal-bound drive.
Evesham United: Vaughan, Watson, Hyde, Hodnett, Costello (Cooper 85), Lutz, Fitter, Woodley (Lennon 80), Palmer, Hands, Curtis. Subs not used: Mussell, Ledgister, Mace.
