Ducros deal on for injury-hit United

EVESHAM United manager Paul West hopes to tie up a deal to sign ex-Kidderminster Harriers star Andy Ducros to bolster his injury-hit squad.

The Robins return to Zamaretto League Premier Division action after a five-week absence with two successive 2-1 away defeats at Hednesford Town and Merthr Tydfil.

But West’s side has suffered from a flurry of injuries to key players and aims to bolster his squad after being given permission by Redditch United manager Gary Whild to speak to 32-year-old Ducros.

West hopes a deal for the Evesham-born attacking midfielder will be secured before United hosts Clevedon Town in their next league game on Sunday (ko 3pm).

This game has been put back by 24 hours as Worcester City will face Kidderminster Harriers in the last 16 of the FA Trophy at St George’s Lane on Saturday, the original date for the Clevedon clash.

Striker Marcus Palmer continued his red-hot scoring streak with two more goals in the two defeats to make it seven in eight games.

After the two successive defeats, Evesham slip three places to 12th and after Clevedon they travel to Chippenham Town on Tuesday night (ko 7.45pm).

Defender Zac Costello made his debut at Merthyr after signing on a month’s loan from Kidderminster Harriers and young striker Rory Curtis also made his first start in Wales on Tuesday night.

West will assess the fitness of five key players who have picked up knocks over the two games.

Defender Steve Luckett (foot) faces a month on the sidelines with a broken foot, while midfielders Michael Hayden (knee) is doubtful as is full-back Anthony Watson (thigh).

Danny Lennon and Leeon Woodley are both suffering from back strains and Mark Hands has an ankle knock.

West said: “Andy is someone we have looked at for a long time.

“I’m trying to tie up a deal before the weekend.

If we could get him in it would be a great capture for us. But it’s got to be the right deal for Evesham.

“Andy is a good footballer with a lot of quality.

“Hopefully by the weekend we will have a few new faces. We need some more quality in the squad.

“My concern at the moment are all the niggles and bumps and bruises we have in the squad. We’ve got to be a bit careful with our injuries.”
