Chippenham Town 2, Evesham United 1.
EVESHAM United will feel aggrieved to return home pointless from their visit to Hardenhuish Park last night after conceding two goals in the final six minutes of this Zamaretto League Premier Division clash.
It is now three straight league defeats for the Robins who looked on course to record their sixth victory on the road until the Bluebirds conjured up a grandstand finish.
A poor first-half was littered with niggling fouls. New signing Andy Ducros made his debut in midfield after joining United from Redditch United but he was substituted after 34 minutes after suffering a calf strain. Kicking down the slope, Evesham began the second-half on a positive note, taking a 49th minute lead.
Mark Hands’ inch perfect through-ball found substitute Danny Lennon who ran on to coolly beat Chris Snoddy in the Chippenham goal.
Snoddy then denied leading scorer Marcus Palmer before Lennon shot across an unguarded goal after dispossessing Alex Kite.
Lennon should have put the game to bed on the hour but, after rounding Snoddy, he was unable to find the net. The miss would prove costly.
On 84 minutes, Greg Tindle crossed from the left and Alan Griffin levellled with a looping header over United keeper Nathan Vaughan.
Then, one minute from time, the Evesham defence failed to deal with Scott Lye’s ball into the box, allowing Lewis Powell to drive home an unlikely winner.
Evesham United: Vaughan, Watson, Hyde, Hodnett, Hayden, Lutz, Fitter, Ducros (Woodley 34), Palmer, Mark Hands, Curtis (Lennon 39). Subs not used: Costello, Ledgister, Steve Hands. Attendance: 294.
