MANAGER Paul Collicutt admits Evesham United will have their work cut out when they visit free-scoring Winchester City tomorrow (3pm).

The Robins have shown no fear against sides in the higher echelons of Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West as they have defeated North Leigh, Tiverton Town and Cinderford Town in recent weeks.

But fourth-placed Winchester have scored more goals than any other team this season — 55 in 20 games — and Collicutt is wary of the threat they pose.

He also said his defence will have to keep Warren Bentley, top of the scoring charts with 24 goals, quiet if they are to come out on top at the Denplan City Ground.

“Winchester are the best team we have played against this season,” said Collicutt, whose side won 1-0 at the Jubilee Stadium in August thanks to a late winner from Louis McGrory.

“Bentley is scoring for fun at the moment. He didn’t play against us when we played them at home, so this will be the first time we have come across him.

“They are a very good side and it is certainly going to be a very hard game for us to win.”

Collicutt said eighth-placed Evesham’s playing squad was “thin on the ground”.

Defender Liam Harding is out for three weeks with a hamstring injury, midfielder Ashley Williams serves a suspension, and the versatile Jared Wilson will be unavailable due to work.

But the Robins may have defender Linden Dovey (ankle) back and the players are determined to continue their eight-match unbeaten streak in the league.

“The lads will have their work cut out but they are in the right frame of mind and I am sure we can put in a strong performance,” Collicutt said.

“We have played well in our last few away games at North Leigh and Tiverton, so I am just hoping we can do exactly the same against Winchester.

“It should be an entertaining match.”

Tuesday’s league game at Swindon Supermarine was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Evesham’s fourth-placed second string host Coleshill Town in the Midland League Reserve Division tomorrow (3pm).
