EVESHAM United manager Paul Collicutt hopes his side’s run of postponements will end tomorrow as they prepare to face Wantage Town at Alfredian Park (3pm).

The Robins’ last two Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West fixtures against Bashley and Bishops Cleeve fell victim to the wet weather.

Collicutt said it had been a “very frustrating” period and, with rain expected in Wantage tomorrow, admitted he was expecting a third successive cancellation.

“The lads can’t wait to get playing again as everything has been very stop-start,” he said.

“We are meant to be playing away at Wantage but I am being told the weather forecast for the weekend is not the best, so we would be disappointed if it does not go ahead.

“It has been very frustrating for everybody but the thing that hurts most teams at this time of year is there is no revenue coming in.”

Collicutt says back-to-back postponements have allowed injured duo Nick Stanley (hamstring) and Liam Harding (thigh) time to recover but forward Lance Smith is suspended and defender Linden Dovey (back) is also a doubt.

“The plus side is Liam and Nick are getting closer to match fitness,” he said. “Liam didn’t train in the week but Nick did.

“Linden picked up a back injury at work, so we are waiting to see how he is as well.”

Wantage are hovering one place above the relegation zone after eight defeats in nine games but Collicutt says his players will need to do a “professional job” to come away with three points.

He added: “It is not an easy place to go as the playing surface isn’t the best, which makes it difficult to play the football we would like to play. So we are going to have to grind a result out.”

Meanwhile, Hereford FC manager Pete Beadle says the club are fortunate to have Mustapha Bundu due to the winger being unable to play higher than step five in the non-league pyramid.

A number of clubs have kept track of the Sierra Leone-born 18-year-old’s progress at Edgar Street but are reluctant to pursue their interest.

“He has an educational visa at Hartpury, which only allows him to play at step five,” said Beadle.

“His coach Marc Richards is a first-team coach at Gloucester and he would love to have him there but, with a lot of African-nation players, he would have to go and play in Europe to get a correct visa before coming back to England.

“So it is very fortunate for us.

“He spent a week at a Premiership club in the early part of the season but, if they bring him in, they would have to send him abroad.”

Leaders Hereford host sixth-placed AFC Wulfrunians in the Midland League Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).
