GOALKEEPER Sam Gilder is poised to make his Evesham United debut tomorrow when they take on “dangerous” Didcot Town at the Jubilee Stadium (7.45pm).

With experienced stopper Kev Sawyer likely to miss the Robins’ next four games due to a family holiday, Gilder is set to stake his claim for the number one jersey.

The 27-year-old joined from Bishops Cleeve in the summer and Collicutt has backed his new recruit to fill Sawyer’s shoes.

“Kev is away on holiday with his wife and kids,” Collicutt said.

“He will miss three or four games, so Sam will be making his debut tonight.

“I gave Sam his debut for Bishops Cleeve when he was 16 and that was 11 years ago.

“He has played a lot of games at various clubs at this level, so I have got no problem putting him in.”

Evesham look to bounce back after losing the opening match of their Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West campaign 1-0 at Salisbury on Saturday.

Once again, they will be without centre-half Matt Sysum, who has one more game left to serve on his ban, while striker Adam Mann is unavailable and defender Linden Dovey is expected to miss the match.

Liam Harding (knee), Jordan Bryan (calf), Jacob Sloggett (ankle) and Sean Wood (knee) have also been ruled out through injury.

Didcot were thrashed 5-1 by Swindon Supermarine at the weekend but Collicutt said: “They will be dangerous so we can’t take them lightly at all.

“This is a team that on their last two visits to the Jubilee have come away with three points, so we know we are in for a hard game.”
