EVESHAM United came from behind to deservedly win 2-1 at Yate in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.
They should have wrapped up the points in the opening 25 minutes but Yate stole a 28th-minute lead through Ollie Barnes’ free-kick.
After nine minutes of pressure, Roland Agbor was fouled by Harley Purnell in the box and Downing buried the penalty to level.
Agbor clinched victory 18 minutes from time, creating the opening with a back-heel before scoring. Yate’s Adrian Hiroli was dismissed for a late tackle on Jamie Hyde in injury-time.
Meanwhile, former Evesham player David Accam made his Champions League debut as a substitute for Swedes Helsingborgs in their 2-0 defeat to Celtic.
Evesham : Coleman, Wilson, Hyde, Williams, Robinson, Warmer, Downing, Hicks (Connor 60), Corbett (Tulloch 81), Palmer, Agbor.
Subs not used: Rhodes, Hutchison, Clarke.
Attendance : 136.
