LITTLETON repeated last season's win with a 1-0 triumph at Stafford Town in the St Mary's Hospice Midland Combination Premier Division.

Goals have been few and far between for Littleton recently but they enjoyed the wind advantage in the first-half and almost took an eighth-minute lead.

A sweeping move saw Jamie Insall set up Luke Rowlands, who shot straight at the keeper.

Littleton's Haydn Whitcombe pulled off a fine save at the other end to keep the scores level.

Stuart Hall side-stepped a defender and shot just over from Matt Chambers' pass before the visitors had an effort disallowed for offside on 39 minutes.

Mid-table rivals Stafford stepped up the pressure in the second period but Littleton went close when Hall fired off target from Callum Clarke's pass.

Whitcombe, supported by his defence of Matt Mitchell, Simon Fitter, Adam Guest and Steven Edghill, ensured a clean sheet.

Littleton finally went ahead 20 minutes from time when Insall collided with the keeper as he chased the ball but still managed to steer his shot home.

A flying save from Whitcombe late on secured the three points.

Littleton exited the Smedley Crooke Memorial Trophy last week 3-2 on penalties after drawing 0-0.

They host local rivals Pershore Town on Saturday (3pm).
