PERSHORE Town recorded their second away win in a week courtesy of a second-half Danny Lennon hat-trick.

They triumphed 3-1 at Stafford Town in Midland League Division One despite missing key players and starting nervously.

Stafford had several good chances before going ahead through Jake Turner on 16 minutes.

Town keeper Andy Yarnold made several saves and the visitors were lucky to only trail by one goal at the break.

Manager Scott Walsh’s team talk inspired the visitors to a much-improved second-half display.

Stuart Hall hit the bar with a 25-yard lob on 57 minutes before Lennon levelled a minute later at the second attempt. In the 74th minute, Lennon again made space and his right-footed shot from the edge of the box beat the keeper at his near post.

The hat-trick was completed late on after he dribbled his way into the area and dispatched a fierce right-footed effort past the keeper.

Town host Southam United on Saturday (3pm) and visit Cadbury Athletic on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, Littleton lost 2-1 at Fairfield Villa in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Trophy second round.

On a day when former strikers Joe Lolley and Matt Smith scored Championship goals for Huddersfield and Fulham respectively, Littleton missed a raft of chances.

They dominated the first-half and should have gone in at least 3-0 up but their only goal was through Luke Rowlands on 35 minutes from Sean Cooke’s pass.

On a bumpy pitch, Rowlands was denied by the keeper from point-blank range after a move involving Kyonn Evans and Will Gayton.

In a more even second-half, Jamie Clarke forced another fine save from the Villa custodian but the hosts levelled on 65 minutes through Connor Collins from a punt upfield.

Littleton had shots cleared off the line only for Villa to produce a winner on 83 minutes when a hopeful cross went into the net off a visiting defender.

They head to Alvis Sporting Club in Midland League Division One on Saturday (3pm).
