FORMER England and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Tim Flowers is the new head coach of struggling Kidderminster Harriers.

Flowers has taken over the first-team duties at Aggborough with immediate effect with manager Gary Whild becoming the new head of football operations.

But Harriers’ assistant manager Mark Creighton has left the cash-strapped club “by mutual consent” and former Coventry boss Steven Pressley will not be joining in an advisory capacity.

Chairman Rod Brown revealed the club’s first-team management restructure ahead of bottom-of-the-table Harriers’ trip to fellow strugglers Halifax Town in the Vanarama National League.

Brown said Flowers’ remit will cover work on the training ground throughout the week as well as team selection and management.

Whild will be extensively involved in first-team affairs both during the week and on match days, working closely with Flowers and the team, as well as taking charge of other aspects at the club, including player recruitment and scouting.

But Creighton, who joined the Harriers management team in March 2014, has left.

After the events of the last 12 months, Brown felt it would be beneficial for Creighton to continue his coaching career in a new environment.

Brown said: “We felt this was the best decision for us at this time but, perhaps more importantly, the best one for Mark Creighton as well.

“He has worked incredibly hard here but it’s going to be good for him to find other opportunities within the game and he’ll go and do that with our very best wishes.”

Brown said the pressure on the management staff and playing squad caused by the club’s financial problems had been immense over the past year.

“We’ve worked incredibly hard this week to find the best way to get the most out of what we have here, and how we can best allow those who are here to do their job to the best of their ability," said Brown.

"Gary retaining a substantial interest in team affairs was of absolute paramount importance.

“You only have to spend a short time with him to learn about his knowledge of the game and it was crucial this wasn’t lost – but I think the change to his role will also energise and excite him."

He added: “Tim Flowers has an unquestionable reputation within the game and his experience is second to none, and I know all of the players respect that and enjoy learning from him.

“This is a great opportunity for Tim and a chance for us to see how things unfold.”
