PERSHORE Town won 4-0 at basement boys Southam United in Midland League Division One to move two points and two places out of the relegation zone.

Six teams are separated by just five points near the bottom of the table.

Town took the lead after two minutes when a free-kick into the area was controlled by captain Shaun Griffiths who laid the ball off for Steven Roche to score with a left-footed shot into the corner of the net.

They increased the lead in the 13th minute when Southam failed to clear a corner and Richard Thomas Robinson fired home from close range.

Town's Ben Lane scored the third having gone past a defender into the box to drive a right-footed shot past the keeper.

They scored again seven minutes into the second half when Chris Whittaker's free-kick was whipped into the box and Reece Jacobs neatly finished on the volley at the back post.

This was a comfortable victory for Town who entertain second-placed Leicester Road at King George V Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
