LENCHES volunteer coach Sam Cuff has organised a six-a-side football tournament for the second year running.

The competition will be on Sunday at Evesham United at 10am with teams arriving from 9.35am onwards.

Proceeds are going to the British Heart Foundation.

Last year the event raised nearly £200 and Cuff hopes for more this year.

Lenches have supported Cuff, who has a twice weekly voluntary commitment to the club, and put him through his FA level one course during which his father died from a heart attack at work.

Worcestershire FA delayed the course which he concluded at a later date.

Cuff has since passed the refereeing course and is working his way through his FA level two qualification with support from his family, friends and those at the club.

He said: "People say football brings people together even at the saddest of times and three years ago I experienced that first-hand.

"Coaching is a fantastic thing and Lenches is a brilliant place to do it.

"It takes your mind off things which are going on elsewhere but for me football is my life and when I’m out there coaching there is not a minute which goes by where I’m not thinking about him (his father).

"In my mind without football and all at the club and everyone around it the last three years would have been a struggle."

Lenches are sponsoring the tournament with the support of local clubs participating.

Cuff added: "I will always remember my dad and thanks to everyone's fantastic support I have been able to move on in my life and I’m enjoying it again."
