AN excellent all-round display saw Pershore Town move up to eighth in Midland League Division One with a 3-0 home win over Uttoxeter Town.

With Scott Devlin bossing the midfield Town dominated the first half and after several chances went ahead on the half-hour with a Jamie Clarke penalty after Daniel Priest was hauled down in the box.

Five minutes later Clarke netted his second, beating the keeper and a defender at the far post after Michael Wright burst clear on the right flank and delivered a well-placed long cross.

Town continued on top in the second period and Priest soon had the ball in the net only to be ruled offside.

Uttoxeter keeper Alex Langridge pushed a Wright shot around his near post with Dane Aldington heading the resulting corner narrowly wide.

Robbie Ager and Mitch Butterworth both went close before Joe Bevan added the third in added time, beating two defenders in a fine solo run before driving the ball past the oncoming keeper.

Last week Town eased into the second round of the Smedley Crooke Memorial Cup with a 5-1 home win over Tenbury United.

Forward Danny Moy lasted just 20 minutes before limping off to be replaced by Wright who helped himself to a second-half hat-trick.

Tenbury went ahead on 22 minutes with a fine drive by Lee Millichip but once Town pulled level six minutes later with keeper Chris Rich's huge clearance being headed into his own net by a defender Town were always in control.

Priest put Town ahead with an excellent free-kick before the break before Wright netted three times and had another shot pushed onto the bar by the keeper.

Town will face sterner opposition in the next round though at Lye Town.
