FIVE-star Moreton Rangers pulled off a shock by ousting Hellenic League Premier Division opponents Oxford City Nomads from the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup.

Harry Peters (2), Callum Peters, Lee Brooks and Jamie Wyatt struck in the 5-1 success at London Road over a team that plies its trade two levels above Rangers.

The victory, earned in spite of Wyatt being sent off for a second bookable offence, set up a third-round showdown with Easington Sports, currently third in Hellenic One West.

Second-placed Moreton return to Division Two West action on Saturday with a trip to Brimscombe & Thrupp reserves (3pm) in the hope of closing a three-point deficit to leaders Newent Town.

In the Supplementary Cup, Josh Fielding’s second-half hat-trick was not enough for Bourton Rovers to claw their way back against Shortwood United reserves.

United led 3-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Yesh Comotey (2) and Will Hawes. Fielding’s treble set up a tense finale but substitute Dawid Regula’s goal proved enough for Shortwood to see through a 4-3 success.

Bourton’s first team does not play on Saturday.

Shipston Excelsior’s Midland Football League Division Three clash with FC Stratford fell victim to the weather last weekend with a trip to Boldmere Sports & Social Falcons next on the cards on Saturday (2pm).

Excelsior sit fourth in the table, two points off second place with games in hand but trail unbeaten leaders GNP Sports by 10 points.

Moreton’s second team lost 2-1 at Brize Norton in the Watts Junior Cup.

Rangers benefited from an own goal by Dan Humm but Gezz Morgan and Ozzy Oswald scored for the hosts who later had goalkeeper Steve Marshall to thank for an inspired performance between the sticks.

Jack Knight helped himself to five goals in Chipping Norton Town’s 11-0 thrashing of Brize Norton reserves in the Witney & District Supplementary Cup.

Mark Corbett and Liam Nimmo each bagged a brace with Martin Krays and Yusuf Okunade completing the rout.
